VIDEO: Al Michaels Makes Startling Admission About Gambling On NFL Games While Calling ‘Thursday Night Football’

Al Michaels does not shy away from making gambling references while calling football games. It’s clear that the man knows a thing or two about the art of making wagers.

But he made a bit of a startling admission ahead of the ‘Thursday Night Football’ broadcast featuring the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

Michaels dropped by ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ before the game and said he’s always known what the betting spreads are and knew what it was when Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey surprisingly missed from 51 yards against the New York Giants last Thursday.

“I was surprised that Brandon Aubrey missed that kick because he hasn’t missed all year,” he said. “I knew what the spread was obviously but I’ve known that throughout the years.”

Al Michaels Had More Fun When Gambling Wasn’t So Widespread

Michaels also said he enjoyed making gambling references when the practice wasn’t so mainstream.

“I had more fun during the time when you weren’t supposed to make any reference to gambling, where I was kind of like the rascal and all that,” he added. “People would say, ‘Well, the league is getting upset.’ Yeah, they’re getting upset, but in the meantime they know everybody’s betting. So it’s like, ‘You shouldn’t do that, but we’re gonna turn a blind eye to it.’

“Now, everybody’s doing it. People are betting on 3rd-and-4. I can still sneak in those things I was able to sneak in in the past, but it’s not as if I’m a rascal anymore.”

We’ll be keeping an ear open for those, Al.
