REPORT: New Front-Runner Emerges To Land Bill Belichick As Their Next Head Coach

A new odds-on favorite has emerged to hire former New England Patriots head coach and eight-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick.

After parting ways with the Patriots in January, the 72-year-old Bill Belichick was surprisingly passed over in the 2024 NFL head coach hiring cycle. Belichick had been employed by an NFL team every year from 1975 to 2023, winning six Super Bowl rings as the Patriots’ HC and two as an assistant with the New York Giants under Bill Parcells.

Despite his age and early success in NFL media, it has been widely reported that Belichick wants to coach again in 2025. Surely, the greatest head coach in NFL history won’t be passed over in a second straight hiring cycle.

According to Bookies.com, the Dallas Cowboys are the betting favorites to land Belichick at +200, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles at +350. The Giants, Belichick’s old team, have the third-highest odds at +750.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is in his contract year and boasts a disappointing 1-3 playoff record in Dallas. Though owner Jerry Jones loves to be patient with coaches, it’s reasonable to expect a coaching change if Dallas’ season ends with another miserable playoff loss.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni may be on the hot seat as well, given the team’s mediocre start (2-2) and ugly finish last year (lost six of their final seven games). Dallas and Philly are in win-now mode, too, so both make sense as landing spots for Belichick.

Bill Belichick Will Likely Want To Coach A Contender

Since Belichick will be 73 years of age next year, and given his desire to break Don Shula’s head coaching wins record, it’s hard to envision him willingly joining a rebuilding team. Belichick presumably wants to join a team with a championship-caliber roster, and the Eagles and Cowboys would give him that opportunity.

Othe talented-but-underachieving that could eye Belichick include the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals, who are well short of expectations with records of 0-4 and 1-3, respectively.
