Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle have welcomed their new baby boy, having revealed the latter’s pregnancy earlier this year.
The Phoenix Mercury star announced the birth of their first child while speaking to CBS Sports ahead of the WNBA All-Star Skills challenge and three-point contest at the Mercury’s home arena on Friday night.
“He’s here,” she told said network’s ‘We Need To Talk.’ “Seven pounds, eight ounces.”
Brittney added she is thrilled to be a “pops.”
“He is amazing!” she exclaimed. “They say you know as soon as you see him, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window and that’s what literally happened.
“Kinda sucks because I gotta leave, but at the same time … he’ll understand.”
The WNBA star was referring to her duties with Team USA, which is heading to Paris, France, for the Olympic Games. They will tip their campaign off against Germany next week.
Brittney Griner Hopes To Be Bombarded With Updates & Photos
Brittney Griner and her wife haven’t shared any photos of the newborn, but she expects to get constant pictures and updates while she’s in France.
“My whole phone is turned into him now,” she said.
Brittney previously revealed the baby would be named “Bash.” She also expressed excitement over the prospect of him growing up to become an athlete like her.
This year has been a big one for the Mercury star, who authored another book, “Coming Home,” and has since welcomed a baby boy. She will hope to bring gold home from France.
