Miami quarterback Cam Ward continued his pursuit of the Heisman Trophy on Saturday in many ways.
Ward entered Saturday night’s game against South Florida with a ton of confidence, and it showed with just one play he had.
With just a minute left in the third quarter, Cam Ward could be seen telling the USF defensive line that he was going to call a running play.
He not only told them it was a run play, but he also pointed to the exact spot where his running back was going to help them out. It did not work.
Later in the game, Ward rubbed it in the faces of the fans as he gave a horns-down gesture.
Ward finished the night with 404 yards on 24-of-34 passing. He and the Hurricanes won 50-15 to open the 2024 season with four straight wins.
Amid an injury to Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, Cam Ward is an early candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
If he can continue to play like this and win the award, he would be the first to do so for the Hurricanes since Gino Torretta’s senior season in 1992.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward entered Saturday night’s game against South Florida needing 89 yards to make history.
He would get that and more.
In a 50-15 win over South Florida on Saturday night, Ward threw for 404 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.
It made him the 13th player recognized by the NCAA to have reached that milestone, and now he and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel are the only active college quarterbacks with more than 15,000 passing yards.
Saturday’s game was the 48th of Cam Ward’s career.
