A poker world champion has accused former U.S. president Donald Trump of cheating during a golf round together some years ago.
Donald Trump secured the Republican nomination for the third consecutive United States presidential election. Trump will run against VP Kamala Harris, who secured the Democratic nomination after incumbent Joe Biden announced that he would not seek reelection.
Trump is one of the most polarizing figures in the history of politics. In the world of professional sports, he has garnered plenty of supporters as well as vocal critics.
A 2023 interview between poker world champion Daniel Weinmann and PokerGo has recently resurfaced with the 2024 election approaching.
During his interview, Weinmann recalled a time when he golfed with Donald Trump and accused the former president of “bending” the rules. Specifically, Weinman and his group believe Trump had a caddy move his ball further ahead of the others following their opening hole tee shots:
“Golfing with Trump was one of the most interesting experiences of my life for sure. There was, you know, some slight and moderate bending of the rules. Probably my favourite was we had six people in our group. Everyone was a scratch golfer. Trump is not a bad golfer, I would say he probably has a high, single-digit handicap.
On the first hole we played, we all teed off and by the time we all got up to the bridleway, he was 80 yards ahead of everybody. So we think there was a caddy, in the fairway, who may have done some ball manipulation.”

Veteran sportswriter Rick Reilly wrote a book titled “Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump Book by Rick Reilly”, which was published in 2019. Reilly shared several experiences he had with Trump on the greens and how the former president apparently cheated during the rounds.
The 78-year-old Trump owns over a dozen golf courses worldwide and has received political endorsements from legends like Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and John Daly.
Other notable athletes that have endorsed Trump include Brett Favre, John Elway, Mike Ditka, Mike Tyson, Curt Schilling, Mariano Rivera, Bobby Orr, Bob Cousy, Colby Covington and Hulk Hogan.

If Trump defeats Harris, he’ll become just the second president in the history of the United States to serve two non-consecutive terms. The only president to have done so is Grover Cleveland, who was in office from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897. Benjamin Harrison was in office between Cleveland’s two terms.
