Earlier this week, Jalen Royals missed practice ahead of the team’s first game of the season. That is never a good sign.
The rookie wideout is dealing with knee tendinitis. With Rashee Rice also out due to suspension, the team now has to deal with the fact that they won’t have him either against the Chargers.
Rookie wide receiver Jalen Royals won’t be on the field against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil. The fourth-round pick is out with a knee injury.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid already stated last week that his expectations were that Royals wouldn’t be available to play in Friday’s Week 1 opener against the Chargers.
Without Royals on the field, Kansas City will be left with top wideouts Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
The team is expected to fly to Brazil on Wednesday and do a walkthrough practice.
More On Jalen Royals

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Jalen Royals was held out of the Kansas City Chiefs’ latest practice due to injury, and now his 2025 season will start with a missed game.
Royals, who joined the Chiefs as a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, were expected to have a modest role in the team’s offense.
It remains unclear how long Royals will be sidelined due to his current injury.
The Chiefs, who are already dealing with the fact that veteran NFL referee Carl Scheffers will be the head official, will have to use everyone else who is healthy to get by during this game.
This past preseason, Jalen Royals hauled in a trio of passes for 14 yards while running back a pair of kickoffs for 75 yards.
Hopefully, his injury doesn’t linger for too long. The Chiefs will have nine days’ rest before they have to play again.
