REPORT: Shocking Favorite Emerges To Sign Russell Wilson As Their New Quarterback For The 2025 Season

A new odds-on front-runner has emerged to land quarterback Russell Wilson if he leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers and enters free agency.

Last year, the Steelers signed Wilson to a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum following his release from the Denver Broncos. Pittsburgh GM Omar Khan also acquired 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields in a deal with the Chicago Bears to complete the QB room makeover.

Russell Wilson was certainly playing his way toward an extension after helping Pittsburgh improve to 10-3 following a Week 14 home win over the Cleveland Browns. But the Steelers inexplicably dropped their final four regular season games before getting crushed 28-14 by the rival Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.

According to the Bovada sportsbook, the Steelers remain the favorites to have Wilson on their roster come Week 1 at -325. But if Wilson doesn’t re-sign with Pittsburgh, the Las Vegas Raiders are the the front-runners to land him at +250.

Wilson revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier this week that the two sides have discussed a contract extension, though he wouldn’t elaborate much.

Russell Wilson Can Still Start In The Right System

Wilson certainly isn’t an elite quarterback anymore, but his production the last two years proves that he’s still a capable starter. He’s thrown 42 touchdowns and just 13 interceptions since 2023 with a passer rating of 95.6 or higher each year.

The 36-year-old can still produce in a game manager role, but he can’t be relied upon to completely carry a franchise the way he did in his final years with Seattle. The right coaching staff and supporting cast need to be in place for him to be effective.
