Liam Payne’s preliminary autopsy report reveals that he died from multiple injuries involving “internal and external hemorrhage,” Us Weekly can confirm.
The former One Direction singer suffered “multiple traumas,” which contributed to his death, according to the report obtained by Us on Thursday, October 17. (Payne died on Wednesday, October 16, at the age of 31.)
The Forensic Medical Corps doctors documented 25 injuries, including “cranioencephalic injuries were severe enough to cause death.” The officials added that Payne’s hemorrhages in his skull, chest, abdomen and limbs “contributed to the mechanism of death
The doctors noted that “additional tests” have been requested to confirm their findings. A toxicology report as well as a histopathological and biochemical test have been requested as well.
The preliminary autopsy also determined that Payne’s injuries did not “suggest the involvement of third parties.”
Us confirmed on Wednesday that Payne fell to his death while staying at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Argentina. The following day, police sources told Us that all that is known is that “he fell” from the third floor of the hotel, but “it is not known whether he jumped” or it was an accidental fall.
Prior to Payne’s death, police responded to a 911 call after 5 p.m. local time saying that there was an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol” on the premises. Payne fell from his balcony before medical professionals could arrive on scene.
“Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” Buenos Aires emergency services chief Alberto Crescenti said in a statement on Wednesday, according to La Nacion. “Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”
Payne’s death is currently under investigation after the City Police’s Mobile Criminalistics Unit found substances inside the late singer’s room.
“At first glance — and pending confirmation from testing — [they] appeared to be narcotics and alcoholic beverages, as well as various broken objects and furniture,” according to a report obtained by Us on Thursday.
The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 is focused on “reconstructing the circumstances” of Payne’s death and attempting to determine “the possible involvement of third parties in the events leading up to the victim’s death.”
While officials are looking for answers, Payne’s friends, family and fans are mourning his loss. “We are utterly devastated by the news,” one of his family members told MailOnline at their home in England.
“We are heartbroken,” the family told BBC in a statement on Thursday. “Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
The former One Direction singer, who was part of the British boy band from 2010 until their indefinite hiatus in 2016, is survived by his mother, Karen Payne, and father, Geoff Payne, and two older sisters, Nicola and Ruth. Liam is survived by his son, Bear, whom he welcomed with Cheryl Cole in 2017. (He and Cole split in 2018.)
