Everyone Wants The Miami Dolphins To Sign The Same Big-Name Quarterback After Tua Tagovailoa’s Scary Injury, And It’s Not Who You Think It Is

NFL fans are calling for the Miami Dolphins to sign a former Pro Bowl signal-caller and familiar face following Tua Tagovailoa’s injury scare on Thursday night.

Tua Tagovailoa was knocked out of the third quarter in Thursday night’s home game against the Buffalo Bills when Damar Hamlin accidentally made hard contact with his head on a routine tackle attempt.

Tagovailoa scrambled to pick up a first on a fourth-down play inside the red zone. The Dolphins quickly ruled him out for the game with a concussion, and Skylar Thompson was forced to finish the contest (a 31-10 Bills victory).

With Tua Tagovailoa suffering another worrisome injury, many fans on X/Twitter called for Miami GM Chris Grier to bring back former Dolphins starting signal-caller Ryan Tannehill, who remains a free agent:

Tannehill played with the Dolphins from 2012 to 2018 before getting traded to the Tennessee Titans in a cap-saving move. He enjoyed a career revival there, winning 2020 Comeback Player of the Year honors and leading Tennessee to three straight playoff berths (including the 2019 AFC Championship Game).

Tagovailoa’s concussion is especially concerning because of his history with head-related injuries. He suffered three concussions in the 2022 season alone and missed four regular season games plus the team’s Wild Card Round loss to the Bills.

Dolphins Need To Find Another QB Behind Tua Tagovailoa

Skylar Thompson showed once again in Thursday’s loss to the Bills that he carries limited upside and can’t be trusted to save a team if the occasion calls for it. He’s better served as a third-string quarterback, and the Dolphins have to find a better second-stringer as insurance behind Tagovailoa.

Tannehill makes perfect sense given his playing experience and familiarity with the Dolphins. He wouldn’t have to play lights-out for the ‘Phins to have a chance, either, with a prolific set of playmakers at his disposal.
