Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones left Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a non-contact injury after planting his foot.
In the final minute of the first quarter, Daniel Jones stepped back to attempt a pass. Just as he let the football go, Jones fell to the ground and had to be looked at by trainers. Backup Riley Leonard had to relieve the veteran signal-caller:
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Colts announced that Jones was out of the game with an Achilles injury. Non-contact injuries are usually the most sinister in football. Unfortunately, it already looks like the Colts’ starting QB just suffered a season-ending injury.
Coming into Sunday’s contest, Daniel Jones was having a career year. The 28-year-old completed 67.9 percent of pass attempts for 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Jones also had 160 rushing yards and five rushing scores.
Indianapolis entered this game tied with Jacksonville for first in the AFC South (8-4). All of the Colts’ remaining games are against teams above .500, so losing Jones for the year would be the final dagger in their playoff hopes.
