The Cleveland Browns got destroyed on Sunday.
Before you knew it, a close game was a 30-7 rout heading into the final quarter of play. The Patriots would only score two more points, which came by way of a safety.
Dillon Gabrel’s day worsened when he resorted to his usual checkdown in the fourth quarter, but nobody was in the area. That led to an intentional grounding penalty and two points for New England.
Cleveland decided to go for the ultra-rare safety onside kick on the ensuing play.
Not only did the Cleveland Browns go for it, but their kicker put up a perfect bouncer in the air for a recovery at the Browns’ 33-yard line. It was their first successful onside kick since 2016.
The Browns may have lost this game, but Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett was still the star as he broke his own franchise record with five sacks against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Garrett, who has been at the center of trade rumors, had 4 ½ sacks against the Chicago Bears in 2021.
As for the Cleveland Browns’ offense, Dillon Gabriel completed 21 of 35 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions against the Patriots. Only two of those completions went to wide receivers.
