Fans believe the NFL referees are “rigging” the Philadelphia Eagles-New York Giants game after a questionable call that favored the defending Super Bowl champions.
The NFL refs have been under the spotlight aplenty during Eagles games this season, thanks to them missing obvious false start infractions during the “tush push” plays. But what happened in the second quarter was truly another level of “bizarre.”
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles lined up for the tush push play on a 4th-and-1 situation. Hurts was stripped of the ball as he dove forward, and the Giants appeared to have made a clear recovery:
But the officials inexplicably called the play dead, allowing the Eagles to maintain possession. Two plays later, Hurts threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to running back Saquon Barkley.
After this baffling ruling, angry football fans accused the NFL refs of fixing this game for the visitors. One user shared a photoshopped image of Hurts and an NFL official doing a jersey exchange:
“The eagles bail the refs, what’s new,” one fan wrote.
“This is just match fixing there is literally no other explanation,” a user said.
“Eagles are what social media thinks the chiefs are. The eagles get away with alot,” another commented.
“Because it’s the Eagles,” a fan said.
“and the fact is they didn’t…the whistle comes after the ball is turned over to the Giants. The game is rigged man…just like the NBA…and I’m sure MLB, etc. FBI isn’t done arresting people, and we all should boycott this fake, rigged, nonsense. Now, back to the game,” another said.
Honestly, does anyone know how to officiate the tush push?
