Brandon Graham might be feeling that itch to get back on the field.
Za’Darius Smith, who leads the Eagles’ edge rushers in sacks, announced on social media last week that he was retiring after 11 seasons in the NFL.
The Eagles had just signed Smith after their season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys in September.
“I knew this day would come — but now that it’s here, I’m feeling so many emotions I never expected,” he wrote on Instagram.
Smith’s departure from the Eagles left a gaping hole in their defense. He recorded 10 tackles, three solo, and 1.5 sacks over five games for Philly this season.
Now, it appears that the team might find help in the form of Brandon Graham.
Brandon Graham Mulling Come Out of Retirement
Veteran DE Brandon Graham has spoken with the Eagles about coming out of retirement and re-signing with the team.
The Eagles need an edge rusher, and the franchise legend could be the perfect addition.
Graham is currently on the team’s reserve/retired list. He previously said on the Up & Adams show in June that he was “90 percent retired.”
The Eagles have logged just nine sacks thus far, which is unacceptable for a Super Bowl contender.
Graham is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles, winning in Super Bowl LII and Super Bowl LIX. He could easily step in and fill the void that Smith has left.
Brandon Graham is 36, but hasn’t lost a step. So far in his career, he has 487 total tackles, 126 tackles for loss, 76.5 sacks, 22 forced fumbles.
He now has the chance to improve on those numbers.
