Kansas City Chiefs superstar defensive tackle Chris Jones has courageously been playing through a heavy heart over the last two weeks.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Chris Jones revealed that his aunt Angela died of a heart attack during the Chiefs’ Week 3 “Sunday Night Football Game” against the New York Giants on Sept. 21.
“She meant a lot,” Jones said, per Chloe Godding of KMBC. “I actually stayed with her for a duration, part of my life, probably like five or six years. So we were very close.
“She was actually watching my game when she passed away, so. Meant a lot to me, my family, huge supporter.”
Jones attended Angela’s funeral in Mississippi before last Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. He arrived at Arrowhead Stadium shortly before kickoff and helped the Chiefs to a 37-20 victory.
Chris Jones learned the tragic news from his family after the win over the Giants. He also expressed gratitude to Andy Reid and the coaching staff for their understanding and helpfulness during the difficult circumstances.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jones’ family during this difficult time.

The Chiefs lost their first two games of 2025, raising questions about whether their dominant reign was coming to an end. But they responded with easy wins over the Giants and Ravens, moving back to .500 and just one game behind the Los Angeles Chargers for first in the AFC West.
Kansas City’s defense struggled in the Week 1 loss against the Chargers, but they’ve held opponents to 16.3 points per game over the last three weeks. And with Xavier Worthy’s return providing a giant boost to the offense, the Patrick Mahomes-led unit is starting to find its regular form.
The Chiefs will visit the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, looking to get above .500 for the first time this season.
