It’s hard to believe that we are just over a week away from the one-month anniversary of Charlie Kirk being gunned down in cold blood.
With so much time passing, his name still remains a hot-button topic on social media.
Former ESPN host Samantha Ponder was one of many people who spoke out about the conservative influencer. It did not work out in her favor as she recently opened up on the “vicious” messages she received on social media after she mourned the loss of Charlie Kirk following his assassination.
Ponder appeared on Fox News Channel’s “Saturday in America” and recalled when he reshared a video of Kirk and his family on social media. She thought nothing of it at the time of posting it, but her messages soon began to blow up.
“The strange thing is, I didn’t really say much. I reposted a video of his family just because I thought it was so relatable to see, because he’s a dad. You forget when you watch people on TV sometimes that this is just a dad who is a husband and has these little kids,” she said. “So, I reposted a video of their family on vacation, and I immediately lost thousands of followers – and who cares? This is not about me.
“But it was more about seeing what’s going on in our country right now, and I got just vicious messages, which any of us who have worked in TV get all the time. I’m used to that. But it was in response to something that I thought we could all agree on – man, it’s sad when someone’s murdered. I thought that was just something the general public could agree on.”
The former 10-year veteran at ESPN, who was fired from the Worldwide Leader in Sports, couldn’t believe her eyes.
“Those people weren’t seeing it all. So, that tells us we’re seeing two different Americas, and a lot of it is because of the social media algorithm that we are all just chronically online addicted to, which is a real problem.”
She posted the following message after Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University.
“I mourn for Charlie’s family. I mourn for our country,” Ponder wrote.
“But I have renewed hope that many, like me, will find the courage to lovingly speak the truth boldly in the public square, as he often did.”

Talk negatively about Charlie Kirk, and you are bound to lose your job.
In the wake of death, several people are finding themselves being put on blast and getting fired from their jobs. Numerous workers have been fired for their comments on his death, among them MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd.
Joe Burrow’s foundation was also forced to part ways with board member Judge Ted Berry after his controversial comments on Charlie Kirk’s murder.
In the NFL, the Carolina Panthers had to appease social media by firing a staffer over their mean comments.
Ex-ESPN star Keith Olbermann did not lose his job, but social media certainly wanted it to happen after he wrote, “Burn in hell, Sinclair. “Alongside Charlie Kirk.”
