Football fans think the Cincinnati Bengals will pull off a blockbuster trade with a rival team following Joe Burrow’s devastating turf toe injury.
The 28-year-old Joe Burrow left the Bengals’ home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second quarter with a foot injury after getting sacked. He limped off to the locker room and did not return, but backup quarterback Jake Browning had three total touchdowns in a heroic performance to lead Cincinnati to an epic 31-27 comeback win.
After the game, news broke that Cincinnati fears a Grade 3 turf toe injury for Burrow and that he’ll likely be sidelined for three months.
With Burrow out long-term, fans floated the idea of the Bengals trading for Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders to try and save their season.
“Burrow down. Any chance bengals and browns could trade in the division? Get Shedeur to Cincy,” one fan wrote.
“Bengals should call Cleveland and get Shedeur lol,” a user said.
“Colorado booster here. Let’s just say I’ve heard whispers that the Bengals called the Browns about a trade for Shedeur to make him their starter,” wrote a fan.
“Bengals should just trade for Shedeur since Joe will be out for 3 months,” another said.
“Bengals should trade for Shedeur Sanders and have him lead them to the playoffs if Burrow is out for an extended amount of time,” a user commented.
“The Bengals need to trade to acquire Shedeur Sanders, like now!!!” wrote another.
Despite a strong showing in his preseason debut, Shedeur Sanders was never seriously viewed as a potential Week 1 starter by Browns coaches. He’s the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel, who took over in garbage time during Cleveland’s blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
But it’s unlikely the Browns would trade Sanders to a division rival, and the Bengals appear keen on rolling with Browning.
