The Jake Moody era is over.
It’s never ideal to cut a third-round pick just a game into his third season, but the 49ers had to make that decision going forward.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the 49ers, who are fresh off terrible news about George Kittle’s injury, decided to part ways with the third-round kicker.
During his final game for the franchise, Jake Moody missed a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter and later had a 36-yard attempt blocked. Both of those attempts would’ve tied the game. Luckily, the 49ers still won, 17-13.
Unfortunately, his teammates were not happy with him.
Fox Sports’ Pam Oliver reported that players were “ticked off” and two helmets were thrown in frustration.
The 2023 third-round pick out of Michigan has struggled to make field goals since the 2024 season. He was already on thin ice, and it only took one game for the franchise to part ways to ensure he wouldn’t cost them any games.
Where Does Jake Moody Go From Here?

Jake Moody might be finding himself out of the league.
After a rough Week 1 outing by him, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan stood by his kicker.
That lasted just a few days. The 49ers waived Moody on Tuesday.
The 49ers, who made Moody a third-round pick in 2023, missed one field goal and had another one blocked against the Seattle Seahawks.
In his career with the 49ers, Jake Moody missed 16 of 62 field goals. If he clears waivers, he will become a free agent.
If no team picks him up, Moody might have to sign with a professional team in the Canadian Football League or the UFL just to get his kicking back on track.
