For his first game of the NFL season, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams wanted to send a message to the millions of people who would be watching the Monday Night Football game this week.
Since college, fans have known that Williams is a man who likes to paint his fingernails. He does so unapologetically.
The former USC quarterback explained last year that he loves to go to the nail salon because it’s peaceful and he can throw on some headphones and watch a movie.
“And then, I’m comfortable in my own skin. I know who and what I am and who I like and what I like and how I go about that,” he said at the time.
On Monday, the Chicago Bears’ star quarterback had his fingernails painted, but this time, he had a message to send.
Williams’ nails were painted with the suicide prevention logo and colors on his throwing hand. His left hand displayed the numbers “988,” which is the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

For those who are unaware, September is suicide prevention awareness month, with World Suicide Prevention Day being on Wednesday, September 10.
The Trump administration, unfortunately, shut down a sub-section of the national suicide crisis helpline in July under changes to the US federal budget. The LGBTQ+ Youth Specialised Service hotline served millions over the year and received an influx of calls being fielded following the inauguration of Donald Trump in January.
Unfortunately, Williams has had to deal with accusations of being homosexual throughout his career. Just recently, social media assumed he was cuddling with a man that turned out to be his mom.
Caleb Williams Started Off On Fire And Then Cooled Off

Caleb Williams passed for 210 yards and one touchdown against the Vikings in a 27-24 loss.
For Williams, it was a tale of two halves. He started off the game on fire as he completed his first ten passes and had Chicago up four points at halftime. It appeared that he was going to take over and lead the Bears to a victory.
The offense punted the ball twice while the defense came through with a pick-six from cornerback Nahshon Wright in the third quarter. Then, the fourth quarter happened.
The lack of scoring allowed J.J. McCarthy to get the Vikings back into the game, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another.
While Williams was able to throw a touchdown pass to Rome Odunze to bring the game to within three points, they barely had any time left when they got the ball last.
It was a crushing defeat.
