Last week, the Indianapolis Colts shocked the world when they announced that Daniel Jones would be the starter for the upcoming 2025 season.
Head coach Shane Steichen announced the decision on August 19, 2025, naming the free agent acquisition as the starter over the team’s 2023 first-round pick, Anthony Richardson.
In the aftermath, many on social media, including Robert Griffin III, accused the Colts of trying to tank for Arch Manning.
Jones could have picked any number of teams after he was unceremoniously dumped by the New York Giants last year. He had a particular destination in mind, and it has worked out well for him.
For Jones, that patience is already paying dividends. After his brief stint holding a clipboard behind Vikings starter Sam Darnold, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in March, and now he is the man going forward.
This week, another announcement was to be made, and even his teammate couldn’t believe it.
Daniel Jones Announced As Team Captain

The Colts announced their 53-man roster on Tuesday, which included three quarterbacks: Jones, Richardson, and rookie Riley Leonard.
Head coach Shane Steichen announced on Thursday that Jones is one of five captains for the Colts for the 2025 season.
It is no surprise that the starting quarterback is also a captain, but it does come as a shock to a first-year player on a new team.
Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, linebacker Zaire Franklin, cornerback Kenny Moore, and guard Quenton Nelson are the other Colts captains this season.
The Colts released footage this week showing the players being announced to everybody.
Once Daniel Jones was called out, Colts star player Zaire Franklin could be seen left in shock from that decision.
