It’s been a long time since Taylor Swift sat next to a red head named Abigail Anderson at school.
In fact, in the two decades since the long-time best friends were 15 years old, Abigail has gotten engaged, married and welcomed her first child—and she’s so happy Taylor is heading towards similar milestones with her engagement to Travis Kelce.
Sharing the couple’s joint Aug. 26 post to her own Instagram Story, Abigail wrote, “This,” alongside a red heart emoji.
Taylor’s childhood friend is just one of many—both fans and peers alike—expressing their excitement that the Grammy winner and Kansas City Chiefs player’s love story has reached the point where Taylor has officially said yes.
Among those celebrating the news was Travis’s NFL teammate Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes, the latter now also a good friend of Taylor’s after watching many a Chiefs game together.
While Patrick commemorated the news with a string of heart emojis on his Story, Brittany wrote on her own, “Two of the most genuine people meet and fall in love. Just so happy for these two.”
Both Abigail and Brittany backed their posts with Taylor’s song “So High School,” the track on The Tortured Poets Department long rumored to be an homage to her relationship with Travis.
Taylor and Travis themselves leaned into the educational symbolism when announcing their engagement, captioning the joint post, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
They capped off their caption with a dynamite emoji—a nod to their initials, “T ‘n T.”
Included in the post was a carousel of images from the couple’s special moment, which saw Travis get down on one knee in a lush garden bedecked with pink and white roses. For the occasion, the football player kept things classic in white khakis and a navy collared shirt, while Taylor donned a navy-striped, white dress from Ralph Lauren.
In addition to sweet images of Taylor and Travis embracing and cuddling on a swinging bench was a close up of the Midnights artist’s new bling: a stunningly huge diamond engagement ring.
When it came to landing on the Old Mind Brilliant Cut ring, Travis collaborated with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, a designer who specializes in hand-engraved jewelry made with natural gemstones.
In the case of Taylor’s ring, the large center diamond is held in place by a sleek, yellow gold band, two smaller diamonds flanking it.
