The father of star Celtics guard Jaylen Brown has been arrested for attempted murder, multiple outlets reported Thursday.
Quenton M. Brown, a former boxer who goes by his middle name Marselles, was booked Thursday morning on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a Las Vegas stabbing, NBC affiliate 3 News reported, citing jail records.
The alleged incident at All American Park unfolded in a parking space dispute over a “door ding”, with early reports indicating “the suspect stabbed the victim in the stomach,” per 3 News.
The suspect, who allegedly fled the scene, was taken into custody upon being located by police.
The victim, said to be a youth football coach, was transported to a hospital to undergo surgery, according to TMZ.
Doctors told Las Vegas police that the victim was in critical condition after suffering stab wounds to his back, clavicle and hands, while also breaking a rib.
The girlfriend of the victim claimed the couple was parked when an SUV pulled next to them and the passenger hit their car when he exited the vehicle.
After a verbal disagreement, Marselles followed the victim — the girlfriend said.
Brown “swung his arm in a straight stabbing motion and struck [the boyfriend] in his back,” the girlfriend said, according to police.
Another witness told cops they saw the accused swing his knife “25 times” at the victim, according to 3 News.
When police found Brown in the passenger seat of the car, he had abrasions to his knees and was bleeding from the face.
“He spontaneously uttered that this was all over a door ding without being asked any questions by Patrol officers.”
Marselles is slated to appear in court on Thursday..
He posted a 33-18-1 record as a boxer and made his debut in the sport in 1989.
Brown, an NBA champ with the Celtics and a four-time NBA All-Star, “doesn’t have a close relationship with his father and was unaware of the arrest or incident,” TMZ reported Thursday.
A first-round pick out of California in 2016, Brown has played for the Celtics his entire nine-year NBA career.
The 28-year-old won his first NBA title last year after the Celtics took down the Mavericks in five.
Brown and the Celtics failed to defend their title this year after being knocked out of the Eastern Conference semifinals by the Knicks in six games.
He averaged 22.2 points per game, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists during the regular season and tallied an average 22.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists in the postseason.
