Politics and sports become increasingly intertwined every year. With athletes having such a large platform, many feel they must make their opinions heard, and that’s no different with Blake Ferguson.
On Wednesday, he took a shot at the official White House X account after it posted a photo that read “Ban Assault Weapons,” with the caption “It’s time.”
His response to that was a quote tweet saying, “Put assault weapons in only the hands of the Feds you’re currently weaponizing? Yeah kick rocks.”

People on both sides of the coin joined in on the conversation.
“If you think a milita could take on the US military it’s a joke. Regular people shouldn’t have access to weapons of war in today’s world,” wrote one commenter as a rebuttal
“I am forever a Blake Ferguson fan. #FinsUp,” and “Legend of a long snapper,” wrote two other commenters showing support.
This isn’t the first time Ferguson has let his political views show. His most recent tweet before this was retweeting Republican Vice President nominee JD Vance dissing Kamala Harris for not answering questions.
He’s also shown great support for controversial Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker despite the drama his commencement speech at Benedict College stirred up.
Heck of a day for the kid! Congrats my brother

Blake Ferguson Among Many Athletes Who Continue To Voice Political Opinions
Blake Ferguson is just one athlete in a long line of many who have not been afraid to voice their political opinions.
Of course, most notably, Harrison Butker caught major backlash for a commencement speech at Benedict College that encouraged women to revert to more traditional gender roles, which involved raising a family and being a wife.
Another headliner, Simone Biles, took a shot at Donald Trump for using the term “black jobs” in an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists convention.
After winning a gold medal, Biles went to X and posted photos with the caption, “I love my black job.”
