Taylor Swift never married Matt Healy — and his mom is relieved about that.
“Not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost,” Denise Welch, who is Matt Healy’s mom, told Andy Cohen on a July 24 episode of “Watch What Happens Live.”
Although Swift and Healy (the frontman of the band “The 1975”) never confirmed they were dating, fans suspect their 2023 connection inspired Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
“Not that I have anything against her at all,” Welch said of Swift after the “Watch What Happens Live” audience took a sharp breath.
“It was just, you know, it was tricky,” added Welch. “Listen — you’re not allowed to say anything and then she writes a whole album about it. But Matty has taken it all in completely good grace. He is very happy with his amazing fiancée Gabbriette.”
Welch, an actress whose credits include the popular British series “Coronation Street,” told Cohen that her future-daughter-in-law is “gorgeous,” adding, “We’ve moved on.”
In 2024, Matt proposed to musician-model Gabbriette Bechtel, which Welch shared on the British talk show “Loose Women.”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Welch said at the time.
Taylor Swift has been dating Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs football team, since approximately mid-2023.
Taylor Swift met the English rocker for the first time in 2014, as previously reported by TODAY.com.
“I met Taylor Swift, that was really nice,” Matt told an Australian radio host, via E! News. “We exchanged numbers. Let’s see what happens.”
When the host speculated whether Swift and Healy would date each other, Healy responded, “I mean bloody hell, what am I going to do? Go out with Taylor Swift? She’s a sensation, I wouldn’t say no.”
Rumors that Swift and Healy were dating arose in 2023, when Swift performed at “The 1975” London concert.
At the concert, Welch posted an Instagram photo of herself and Swift, writing, “Oh what a night at a sold out 02. So proud I can’t even begin!!”
In June 2023, a “source” told People that Swift and Matt had broken up.
