Astronomer CEO Andy Byron Is Officially Done

Andy Byron has stepped down as the chief executive officer of DataOps firm Astronomer on the back of his viral jumbotron moment, which sparked a media firestorm following his appearance on the kiss cam during a Coldplay concert at the Gillette Stadium on Wednesday.
Byron was caught on camera canoodling with HR boss Kristin Cabot, but quickly released her and ducked for cover after realization set in.
As expected, the sighting raised questions about Astronomer’s workplace culture, which the company’s board was keen to distance itself from.
It’s now come to light that the company accepted Byron’s resignation on July 19. Co-founder Pete DeJoy has been appointed as his replacement in an interim capacity.
“Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted,” they shared in a LinkedIn post. “The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”
Astronomer Insists Andy Byron’s Actions Are Not Reflective Of Their Leadership Principles

The company also stressed its commitment to ethical leadership, insisting that its core mission in data orchestration and AI observability remains unchanged.

Byron and Cabot’s ill-advised public intimacy has had far-reaching implications. His wife deleted his last name from her social media profiles before her accounts were deleted altogether, while Cabot’s marital status is the subject of widespread speculation.

Previously mostly known within tech circles, Astronomer is now in the middle of a viral cultural moment, and not in a great light.
It’s something they would have wished to avoid but one they are dealing with in the best way they possibly can.
