Imagine a world where boxing’s biggest star is called a “cornflake” by MMA’s most notorious mouth. Well, fans certainly don’t need to imagine anymore. Conor McGregor, the UFC’s king of controversy, has recently just fired a shot at Canelo Alvarez. With two major events set to collide in Las Vegas this September, the Irishman’s predicting a knockout. But not the kind you might expect.
McGregor’s not pulling any punches with his words. He claims Alvarez can only draw about 300,000 buys. That’s a far cry from the $200 million Alvarez is reportedly seeking for a future fight. With two major events set to clash in Las Vegas on September 14, the timing of this verbal sparring is no coincidence. In one corner, there is UFC 306 at the futuristic Sphere. On the other, Canelo faces Edgar Berlanga at T-Mobile Arena.
“Canelo is a cornflake. He has about [300,000] buys in him. He does not generate nothing near what he seeks to be paid. UFC Noche [306] is going to run them from the strip. Sheik Turki was right, moving on. Canelo doesn’t sell,” wrote McGregor via X.
McGregor predicts that UFC 306 will heavily outperform the clashing boxing event. The Irishman didn’t just stop there. He praised Sheikh Turki Alalshikh for “moving on” from Alvarez. It seems McGregor thinks the boxing champ isn’t worth the investment.
But let’s not forget McGregor hasn’t stepped into the octagon since July 2021. His last fight ended with a broken leg and a loss to Dustin Poirier. So, is the ‘Notorious‘ just stirring the pot? Or does he truly believe UFC 306 will outshine Canelo vs Berlanga? Only time will tell.
Conor McGregor Okay With Swapping Michael Chandler With Max Holloway
The Irishman is at it again as the UFC’s most notorious loudmouth is stirring the pot again. This time, he is threatening to ditch Chandler for his long-awaited return in the octagon. The saga between these two fighters has been on a rollercoaster ride. First, they were set to face off earlier in June this year. Then McGregor’s broken toe put those plans on ice. Now, it seems the drama is over.
Both fighters had hinted at a December showdown at UFC 310. But in true McGregor fashion, nothing is ever simple. The Irishman has thrown a curveball into the mix. In a recent Twitter exchange, McGregor threatened to swap Chandler out. His proposed replacement? None other than “the real BMF,” Max Holloway.
“? lol ok lil bro. Swapped out handy. @BlessedMMA what you at December? The real BMF, you know,” wrote McGregor in a now-deleted tweet.
This latest twist came after a bizarre series of events. It all started with Donald Trump, of all people. The former US president named Khabib Nurmagomedov as his favorite UFC fighter. McGregor, never one to bite his tongue, went on a rant. Chandler, trying to defend Trump, mocked McGregor’s recent antics at a BKFC event, and the exchange quickly spiraled from there. And now, fans are in a nutshell. They wonder whether the fight is off, swapped, or still in the same situation! Well, they will get to know about it sooner or later.
