Chiefs fans raise questions as Harrison Butker signs $25,600,000 extension – “Being misogynistic gets you a raise?”

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that kicker Harrison Butker signed a four-year, $25.6 million contract extension. One of the best kickers in the league and an integral part of the previous runs made by the team, there was no doubt that Butker deserved an extension for his play.

However, it’s impossible to talk about Harrison Butker in 2024 without mentioning the controversy he invited to himself with some of his remarks about women’s role in society. Even Serena Williams chimed in during the ESPYs to criticize the kicker, as his controversial remarks were heard all around the world.

As the announcement of Butker’s extension was made on Monday afternoon, NFL fans were upset to see a player who was the subject of a lot of controversy being rewarded with an extension:

“This will help his wife continue to stay at home where she belongs”, trolled a fan.

“Obviously he had the time and energy to negotiate for himself with his wife firmly in the kitchen”, said another

“Did he make his wife make a sandwich for him while he was negotiating?”, a third one wrote.

No matter your opinions on Butker’s takes, the only thing nobody can deny is that he’s one of the best kickers in the league and absolutely deserves the extension he got. If the Chiefs are going for a third-straight championship, he’ll be part of it.

What did Harrison Butker say?

The Kansas City Chiefs kicker had some controversial comments about an array of topics, but the biggest one involved the “role” of women in society.

“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.

“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I’m on this stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation.”

He copped tremendous backlash for his comments, and the NFL released a statement distancing itself from the kicker’s views. Players such as Jalen Hurts also commented on the matter and couldn’t disagree more with the statements.
