Kansas City Chiefs: Controversial Kicker Harrison Butker Has Message for Fans After Signing 4-Year Contract Extension

The Kansas City Chiefs have proved that the traditional way that teams are trying to build their roster is not the only way to win championships. Indeed, the Chiefs have won each of the last two Super Bowls without a bonified number one wide receiver. Instead, they have relied on the ability of their franchise quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, the brilliance of their future Hall of Fame tight end, Travis Kelce, and having a strong defense.

In addition, the Chiefs have realized the importance of having strong role players. This is especially true on special teams where kicker Harrison Butker has helped Kansas City win each of its last three Super Bowls. Despite his reliability, he came under fire during the offseason with some calling on the Chiefs to cut ties with him.

Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker Made Controversial Remarks Durings a Commencement Speech

Back in May, Butker was invited to give the commencement speech at Benedictine College, which is a private Catholic institution known for its traditional values.

During his speech, Butker made several remarks that could be considered misogynistic, anti-Semitic, and bigoted. However, it was his statement regarding women and his ideal role for them in society that drew the most attention and criticism:

“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.

“How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

The three-time Super Bowl Champion received a great deal of blowback for his comments and has been the butt of many jokes since the speech.

Not that he cares, though. He has stated on multiple occasions since that he is sure in his faith and welcomes any criticism as persecution for which he will someday be rewarded.

The Kansas City Chiefs Made Harrison Butker the Highest-Paid Kicker in the NFL

Ever since the speech at Benedictine College, Butker’s teammates on the Chiefs have stated their support of him. Do not misunderstand; they have also said that they do not agree with very much, if anything, that he said. However, they all talked about what a good person and teammate he is.

The Chiefs organization shared this view. Earlier today, it was reported that Butker and the team had agreed to a four-year contract worth $25.6 million. $17.5 million of it is guaranteed.

The contract makes Butker the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, making $6.4 million a season. Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliot and Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker each make $6 million a year.

Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker Posts Message to Fans After Historic Contract

After the news of the extension broke, Butker made the following post on X (formerly Twitter):

As one can see in the post above, Butker does not want to play anywhere but with the Chiefs. And why would he want to go elsewhere? He is already a three-time Super Bowl Champion with Kansas City!

With Butker locked up for the next few years, the Chiefs have the reliable kicker they need to hopefully continue building one of the most impressive dynasties in recent NFL history.
