Dallas Cowboys Make Huge Upgrade To Their Offense By Acquiring Stud Running Back From AFC Contender In Blockbuster Trade Proposal

With the 2024 NFL season just one month away, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is running out of time to bolster a roster that lost much more than it gained this offseason.

Jones stated back in January that the Dallas Cowboys would be “all-in” this offseason. And yet, America’s Team still hasn’t made a single blockbuster trade or free agent signing since the new league year began in March.

The Cowboys lost top running back Tony Pollard, star offensive linemen Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz, former All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore and pass-rushers Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler Jr.

Ezekiel Elliott, who returned to Dallas after a one-year stint in New England, is the top running back on the Cowboys’ depth chart. But “Zeke” is well past his playing prime, and Jones is fooling himself if he thinks the two-time rushing champion can regain his star-like form.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine recently proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would see Dallas bolster their offense by landing Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick:

“There’s a lot riding on this Cowboys season, and any move they can make on the margins to improve should be explored.

Trading for Dameon Pierce could be one such move. The 2022 fourth-round pick averaged 4.3 yards per carry and posted 1,104 yards from scrimmage as a rookie before losing the backfield to Devin Singletary last season.

The Texans don’t seem to have Pierce in the plans after trading for Joe Mixon, signing Cam Akers and drafting Jawhar Jordan in the sixth round. The Cowboys could make a low-risk move by giving up a Day 3 pick to give him a shot at winning a role in camp.”

Pierce was one of the top rookies in 2022, recording 939 rushing yards and four touchdowns despite missing four games. But in a limited role last year, he had just 517 yards of offense and two touchdowns in 14 games.

Dameon Pierce Would Be The Ideal Pickup For Dallas Cowboys

With former Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Mixon now leading the Texans’ backfield, Pierce will unlikely receive much playing time with Houston in 2024.

If the Cowboys traded for him, Pierce would be the favorite to land the RB1 job. He’d have the luxury of playing behind one of the league’s best offensive lines that churns out consistent 1,000-yard rushers.

And with Pierce under contract for two more seasons, Dallas could have a potent playmaking weapon at a bargain price. With Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb needing lucrative extensions soon, getting a player like Pierce on a cheap contract would be a big win for Jerry Jones.
