The death of Jeff Sperbeck, longtime agent and business partner of NFL icon John Elway, has taken a heartbreaking turn as new details emerged this week about the tragic accident that claimed his life. Friends say the incident at The Madison Club in La Quinta, California, last month left Elway “devastated and heartbroken.”
Sources told Denver’s 9News that alcohol played no role in the accident, which happened during what was supposed to be a relaxed, private evening among close friends and family. Elway had been driving a golf cart back to his residence with several guests onboard when Sperbeck fell from the back, suffering severe head trauma. He died four days later in a hospital.
No Recklessness, Just A Sudden Tragedy

According to 9News, Elway, his girlfriend, son, and daughter-in-law were part of a caravan of three to four golf carts ferrying guests a short distance, about a quarter mile, from a private event to Elway’s home. Sperbeck, who was standing on the rear of the cart with another guest, Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, had suggested his wife, Cori, take a seat up front before they departed.
