Donald and Melania Trump face backlash after their ‘heartless’ post about the late Pope Francis.
The Vatican shared multiple images of Pope Francis’s body in an open casket after he passed aged 88 on 21 April.
They later confirmed his cause of death as being from a cerebral stroke and heart failure.
The 88-year-old was the head of the Catholic Church before becoming Pope in 2013, after Benedict XVI resigned.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell made the sad announcement in a statement: “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis.
“At 7.35am this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church.
“He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage and universal love, especially in favour of the poorest and most marginalised.
“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God.”
Now, photos of his body have been shared by The Vatican after his passing.
He is scheduled to be in mourning for nine days and the date of his funeral will be scheduled by cardinals this week.
Now, Donald and Melania Trump have faced backlash over a post about the 88-year-old.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote “Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!”. Some online were left shocked by the choice of words – with Trump claiming to be ‘looking forward to it’.
One person wrote: “Who looks forward to going to a funeral? What a vile thing to say.” while another agreed “Nobody looks forward to going to a funeral. Funerals are somber, depressing occasions where people cry and tell stories about the deceased.”
RIP.
