Preliminary Investigation Reveals New Details in Death of Brett Gardner’s 14-Year-Old Son — Reports

As officials arrange for the return of Miller Gardner’s body, authorities have released new details about the 14-year-old’s sudden death during a trip abroad.

Authorities in Costa Rica say Miller Gardner, the son of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, apparently died of asphyxiation, according to Inside Edition.

Providing further detail, Juan Pablo Alvarado Garcia, a spokesperson for the country’s Judicial Investigative Agency, told NBC News the teenager likely died “after a possible intoxication after apparently ingesting some food.”

Garcia added that the cause of death remains preliminary, and officials are awaiting autopsy and toxicology results to confirm the circumstances.

Investigators found Miller unresponsive on Friday in a hotel room in Manuel Antonio, a resort town on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, where he had been vacationing with his family. The U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica is helping the Gardner family arrange the return of his body to the United States.
