Longtime CBS Sports broadcaster Greg Gumbel will be absent from this year’s NCAA Tournament Selection Show, leaving a noticeable void in the annual March Madness tradition.
Gumbel, who stepped away from his hosting duties in 2024 due to health concerns, passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 78 after a courageous battle with cancer.
His absence will be felt, as Gumbel had been the face of Selection Sunday for more than two decades. The veteran broadcaster’s smooth delivery and deep knowledge of college basketball made him a staple of CBS’s tournament coverage. In his place, Adam Zucker will take the reins for the second consecutive year.

Zucker, a CBS Sports veteran since 2003, is no stranger to the network’s college basketball coverage. Last year, he filled in for Gumbel, opening the show with a heartfelt message: “Greg, of course, has been a fixture of our March Madness coverage for the past quarter-century, and we look forward to having him back right here next year.” Sadly, that return was not to be.
