RUMOR: Several NFL Teams Are Keen On Trading For Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell This Offseason

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell is thought to be a wanted man amid what has been an excellent campaign for the NFC outfit.

The Vikings are vying for the top spot in the conference, having entered Sunday with a 14-2 record. They have been one of the most surprising teams in the NFL, especially given that they’re playing with a quarterback everyone had given up on in Sam Darnold.

O’Connell, though, has done wonders with the team. And according to Jay Glazer, he has emerged as a trade target for multiple NFL teams.

The head coach is entering the final year of his contract with Minnesota and has yet to begin discussions over an extension.

Per Glazer, “multiple teams have him on their board.”

Can Kevin O’Connell Really Be Traded?

Head coaches aren’t often involved in trades, but it’s no new phenomenon.

Jon Gruden was traded from the Oakland Raiders to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002, while Bruce Arians moved from the Arizona Cardinals to the Bucs via trade in 2019.

Bill Belichick was also traded from the New York Jets to the New England Patriots in 2000. Sean Payton was the most recent such example, with the Denver Broncos giving up picks for the right to hire him.

Of course, the Vikings are unlikely to entertain any trade talks over their head coach, especially if he takes them all the way.
