The New England Patriots scared the sports world when they revealed that defensive tackle Christian Barmore did not participate in either of New England’s previous two training camp practices because he had a major health issue.
The team announced that defensive tackle Christian Barmore had been diagnosed with blood clots over the weekend and currently has no timetable for a return.
“Over the weekend, Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots. He was appropriately treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated, and treated Christian.
Barmore, a 2021 second-round pick, is coming off the best season of his three-year career, as he notched 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and 16 quarterback hits, along with a career-high 64 tackles.
Per Pro Football Focus, Christian Barmore had 49 pressures, which tied for 14th-most among interior linemen. His 10.7% pressure rate, per TruMedia, put him on par with players like Buckner (10.9%), Cameron Jordan (10.7%), and Rams rookie Kobie Turner (also 10.7%), per CBS.
It’s clear that the Patriots see Barmore as one of the building blocks of their team under new head coach Jerod Mayo, but now it remains uncertain whether he will be able to play in 2024.
Christian Barmore Signed Massive Deal Months Before Health Issue
The New England Patriots are hoping one of their best defenders can get his health in order after they signed him to a long-term deal.
The Patriots and defensive lineman Christian Barmore agreed on a four-year contract extension that will pay Barmore $92 million, as it was announced earlier this offseason.
According to ESPN, $41.8 million was guaranteed, and it effectively made it the largest non-Tom Brady contract handed out by the Patriots in the franchise’s history.
