Patrick Mahomes’ $20M Blow Softened as Chiefs Get Massive Injury Boost

When the chips are down, the Chiefs just keep finding ways to stack them up. You could say that the Kansas City Chiefs were already in the game before the season even kicked off. Yeah – it’s true ladies and gentlemen. When Patrick Mahomes restructured his contract earlier this year, of course, this move claimed mixed reactions. However, when Harrison Butker’s injury knocked on the Chiefs’ doors, the same move swung it wide open.

The 28-year-old kicker is dealing with a knee injury, and reports say he has torn the meniscus in his left knee. Even with the injury bug biting all season, Butker still had 18 out of 20 field goals. Now, as he’s out for the next few games, he could be sidelined for at least 3-4 weeks. But thanks to Patrick Mahomes for creating over $20 million in salary cap space for the Chiefs, the replacement would not be that big a deal.

A great QB knows when to pass the ball. The same goes with the Chiefs’ QB when it comes to strategic adjustment, as his smart move allowed the team financial flexibility to manage roster needs, including unforeseen challenges such as player injuries.

As the Chiefs are all set to face the Buffalo Bills in their next game, Spencer Shrader is ready to take over the duty of the star kicker of the team. However, the team will miss Butler’s NFL experience and his absence can affect the Chiefs, especially in high-pressure situations like field goals and extra points.
