With the Kansas City Chiefs on a bye week, Travis Kelce took the chance to unwind in New York City alongside his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. The couple made the most of their downtime by attending Game 1 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.
The proud Cleveland native faced some lighthearted criticism from fans for not wearing Guardians gear during the game. However, he got the last laugh later in the week when his hometown team came through with a thrilling victory.
On Thursday, the series shifted to Cleveland for Game 3, where fans were treated to an intense back-and-forth matchup that stretched into extra innings.
The Guardians clinched their first win of the ALCS with a walk-off home run by David Fry in the 10th inning, narrowing the series gap to 2-1, with the Yankees still in the lead. Game 4 is set to take place Friday night at Progressive Field.
😂😂😂 I’ve been a cleveland sports fan my entire life… Make it back to countless amount of games over the years both Guards and Cavs just to enjoy these memories with my friends and family, WIN OR LOSE!!… and I don’t wear Cleveland gear one time 😂 and all of a sudden I’m not…

After the Guardians’ dramatic win, Kelce shared his excitement on social media, celebrating the victory.
“I’ve been a cleveland sports fan my entire life…” Kelce wrote on X. “Make it back to countless amount of games over the years both Guards and Cavs just to enjoy these memories with my friends and family, WIN OR LOSE!!… and I don’t wear Cleveland gear one time and all of a sudden I’m not a real fan?! Ask anybody that was in or around that suite on game 1 who I was cheering for, they’ll let you know I was there for the @CleGuardians.”
Mahomes’ response
His post didn’t go unnoticed by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who replied with a brief message, adding to the fun online exchange.
“Go @Royals,” Mahomes wrote.
The Yankees, having eliminated the Kansas City Royals in the Division Series, entered the ALCS as favorites against the Guardians. But Cleveland’s win on Thursday night reminded fans that anything can happen in October.
The presence of celebrities like Kelce and Swift at these games has only added to the postseason buzz. MLB even spotlighted the Kelce-Mahomes banter by reposting their exchange on its official Instagram account, tapping into the star power to boost engagement.
Kelce and Swift aren’t strangers to big sporting events; they were spotted earlier this year at the U.S. Open men’s singles final, joined by Mahomes, his wife Brittany, and friends.
