An old video clip has resurfaced of a mic’d up Davante Adams expressing his frustration with the Las Vegas Raiders, and it’s a reminder of how stunning it is that the team waited this long to trade him.
On Tuesday, the Raiders finally honored Davante Adams’ trade request by sending him to the New York Jets in exchange for a conditional 2026 third-round selection. The pick can be upgraded to a second-rounder if a) he’s named a First or Second-team All-Pro or b) is on the active roster if the Jets reach the AFC Championship Game or Super Bowl 59.
It was only reported on Oct. 1 that the 31-year-old had formally requested a trade from the Raiders. Adams had been the subject of trade rumors for over a year, given his noticeable frustration with the team’s struggles on offense.
The ML Football X/Twitter account posted an old clip from the Netflix “Receiver” series that spotlighted Adams, Amon-Ra St. Brown, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Justin Jefferson during the 2023 season.
In that clip, Davante Adams expressed frustration with the play of then-starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Now, it’s especially hard to comprehend why the Raiders didn’t trade him sooner:
(I gotta get the (expletive) out of here before I lose my (expletive) life. I ain’t never been hit this many (expletive) times in my career. Every game (I get (expletive) up.”
The Raiders acquired Adams in a 2022 blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers in exchange for first and second-round picks. Adams then signed a five-year extension worth $140 million.
During his two seasons and a bit in Sin City, Davante Adams caught 221 passes for 2,869 yards and 23 touchdowns. His 1,516 receiving yards in 2022 marked a new Raiders single-season record.
Fans had a lot to say:
“The weeding out process started long ago.”
“Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers deserve to be together forever. They are two of the NFL’s biggest divas. No wonder nobody wants to play with Aaron Rodgers. No wonder the Packers got rid of his ass. Davante Adams personality— reminds me of Antonio Brown. Mike Evans would never talk like that on the sideline. That’s why Mike Evans is the goat and Davante Adams is bouncing around from team to team his entire career.”
“Rodgers gonna have to target him 20 times a game to keep him from crying”
“People hear him say this and don’t understand.. He’s not upset about being on a bad team, while yes, I’m sure that’s a variable for his frustration.. He’s saying, playing with Booty Cheek Quarterback who just toss it up, and aren’t protecting their receivers is the problem. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady constantly speak of certain throws they wouldn’t make to not get their receivers killed.. But when these quarterbacks don’t even understand what they’re seeing on the field, it’s like close an eye, say a prayer, and throw it to the receiver, even if he gets lit up.“
“And going to the Jets fixes this?”
Davante Adams Finally Gets A Fresh Start
It was only a matter of time until Adams and Aaron Rodgers reunited with the Jets. New York’s offense has underperformed through six weeks, and the Raiders are nowhere close to playoff contention.
Now, Adams can pursue a Super Bowl ring with his longtime teammate in Green Bay. What a story it would be if the reunion between Rodgers and Adams culminated with the Jets’ first Super Bowl championship since the 1968 season.
