\u201cA massive pile of misogynistic bull,\u201d Navratilova, 67,\u00a0shared via X<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday, June 30, along with a series of poop emojis. \u201cThis guy should be ashamed of himself and I can\u2019t believe he writes for Newsweek \u2026 and they printed it. I mean \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Newsweek made headlines on Thursday, June 27, after\u00a0publishing a piece<\/a>\u00a0that detailed why Swift is \u201cnot a good role model.\u201d Author\u00a0John Mac Ghlionn<\/strong>\u00a0noted that Swift, 34, \u201cremains unmarried and childless\u201d despite her\u00a0various public romances<\/a>. (The publication noted that the op-ed was updated on Monday, July 1, but it\u2019s unclear what was changed.)<\/p>\n

\u201cA fact that some might argue is irrelevant to her status as a role model,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut, I suggest, it\u2019s crucial to consider what kind of example this sets for young girls.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cWhile Swift\u2019s musical talent and business acumen are certainly admirable, even laudable, we must ask if her personal life choices are ones we want our sisters and daughters to emulate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ghlionn was self-aware enough to realize that the piece sounded like \u201cpearl-clutching preaching\u201d (something Swift references<\/a>\u00a0on her\u00a0Tortured Poets Department<\/em>\u00a0album) but doubled down, claiming that his \u201cconcern [is] rooted in sound reasoning.\u201d<\/p>\n

The writer continued by discussing Swift\u2019s high-profile dating history, referring to it as a \u201crevolving door of relationships.\u201d He further explained that Swift\u2019s relationship history \u201craises questions about stability, commitment and even love itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past week, I\u2019ve seen a rash of vomit worthy opinion pieces by male writers on Taylor Swift. Here\u2019s the latest,\u201d she wrote, calling out the publication by name. \u201cYou should be ashamed of yourself for carrying this crap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manral highlighted the \u201cbarf inducing\u201d portion of the article that referred to Swift\u2019s dating life. \u201cLet me go get my barf bag,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n

While Swift has not publicly addressed the article, she has spoken candidly about the public\u2019s obsession with her love life \u2014 especially in the album notes for\u00a01989 (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt became clear to me that for me there was no such thing as casual dating. Or even having a male friend who you platonically hang out with. If I was seen with him, it was assumed I was sleeping with him,\u201d she wrote alongside the rerecorded album, which was released in October 2023. \u201cAnd so I swore off hanging out with guys. Dating, flirting or anything that could be weaponized against me by a culture that claimed to believe in liberating women but consistently treated me with the harsh moral codes of the Victorian era.\u201d<\/p>\n
