WNBA<\/a>\u00a0legend Sue Bird has discussed the perceived hate\u00a0Caitlin Clark<\/a>\u00a0has had to deal with ahead of the rookie\u2019s first All-Star Game appearance.<\/p>\n

Clark, an All-Star in her first season, didn\u2019t seem to receive a warm welcome after the\u00a0Indiana Fever<\/a>\u00a0made her the No. 1 overall pick in April. However, Bird thinks most people misinterpreted the message they got from the league\u2019s veterans.<\/p>\n

The former Seattle Storm star was a guest on the new \u2018Good Game with Sarah Spain\u2019 podcast this week and insisted that players were only showing their competitive side.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaitlin will go down as, whatever you want to call it, the one who made the change, this pivotal person,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Bird said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe will, 100 percent. But in other leagues \u2026 it was never like when LeBron (James) came, \u2018Oh,\u00a0Michael Jordan<\/a>\u00a0didn\u2019t matter.\u2019 And for some reason that happened, and it caused this whole thing. When the reality was, no player felt that way toward Caitlin, everybody was very welcoming and inviting, and they mistook competitive talk for hate, with hating on somebody.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a thin line there, and some people do both, but I think the majority of WNBA players, with their play, with their talk, it was just competition.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
