Kelly Clarkson has defended the comments she made about the NFL coverage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce\u2019s romance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Clarkson, 42, rose to fame after winning the first season of\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0in 2002 and has since had a successful singing career with hits like \u2018Because of You\u2019 and \u2018Stronger.\u2019<\/p>\n

She now hosts\u00a0The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em>, which offers \u2018heartwarming stories, live musical performances, games, and surprises.\u2019<\/p>\n

Following one episode of her eponymous talk show, Clarkson faced a ton of backlash after she commented on the NFL\u2019s coverage of Swift.<\/p>\n

One outraged Swiftie said: \u201cKelly! Keep your opinion to yourself!\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added: \u201cI didn\u2019t know Kelly was a hater.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKelly this makes you sound pretty jealous,\u201d a third person commented.<\/p>\n

Someone else wrote: \u201cTaylor is breathing life into the league and getting it free global press \u2013 you\u2019re welcome. Kelly Clarkson and others should be grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, others took to the comments and defended Clarkson, with one person saying: \u201cI don\u2019t watch football, but if I did, I would watch it for the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

In agreement, a second said: \u201cI love both the game and Taylor. But I\u2019m tuning in for the game, not\u00a0celebrities<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a Swiftie first and dabble in football, but the NFL is really doing too much,\u201d weighed in a third.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Cruel Summer\u2019 singer can often be spotted attending Kansas City Chief football games as she supports her partner and cheers him on.<\/p>\n

IDX<\/a>\u00a0reports that Swift\u2019s attendance at the games has led to the NFL\u2019s\u00a0highest regular-season female viewership since it started collecting such data in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The NFL\u2019s viewership has reportedly experienced a 53% spike among teenage girls, a 24% increase among women aged 18-24, and a 34% rise among women aged 35 and above.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Since romance rumors began swirling between Swift and Kelce, it\u2019s been\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0that the singer has effectively generated a $331.5m boost to the Kansas City Chiefs and NFL\u2019s value.<\/p>\n

Yet not everyone is happy about the NFL\u2019s frequent coverage of Swift.<\/p>\n

On one episode of her show, Clarkson brought it up when interviewing\u00a0Saturday Night Live<\/em>\u00a0star Bowen Yang.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Since U Been Gone\u2019 singer said: \u201cIt\u2019s not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now. It\u2019s like you\u2019re watching\u00a0Housewives<\/em>\u00a0while you\u2019re watching.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said it felt like the commentators were now \u2018just talking about gossip\u2019 during recent games, adding with a laugh: \u201cAnd you\u2019re like, \u2018So, what about the play?’\u201d<\/p>\n

Referencing the power couple, she said: \u201cThey\u2019re taking over.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Clarkson not being the only one who feels this way, the NFL released a statement last year defending its coverage of the couple.<\/p>\n

It reads (per the\u00a0BBC<\/a>): \u201cWe frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what\u2019s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we\u2019ve leaned into in real-time, as it\u2019s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we\u2019ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, Clarkson decided to clarify that her comments were made lightheartedly.<\/p>\n

She wrote on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>: \u201cJust a quick public service announcement everybody since this seems to be breaking news\u2026 Do not fall prey to clickbait, trash reporters twisting the facts again. I did not bash anyone\u2019s romance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am pro romance. Yay romance, did y\u2019all even watch what I actually said on my show? I just said I want to watch football when I tune in to watch football. Seems an appropriate request. Okay, carry on, and GO COWBOYS!\u201d<\/p>\n
