ATLANTA \u2014 Swifties, a new course could be calling your name at\u00a0Emory Univeristy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It’s “Sociology: Taylor’s Version,” a sociology course focusing on the singing star. Oxford College launched the course, which will examine Taylor Swift’s “reputation” and explore the eras of her career.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The leader of the class, Devon Goss, is, of course, a Swiftie herself!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“I\u2019m definitely a Swiftie, and I\u2019ve been following this massive hype around Taylor. I just kept seeing Taylor Swift being tied to a lot of things that we study and think about in society,” Goss, an assistant professor at Oxford.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

According to an Emory University news release, Goss said she noticed an ongoing social media conversation surrounding the star, which is “Nothing New.” but it sparked Goss’ interest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Her stance on important societal issues also intrigued the professor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Emory University students, “Are you ready for it?”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The class will focus on general theories of sociology and how they relate to celebrities and pop culture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

A news release added that students will apply what they learn to everything they know about Swift.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Students will also watch her document “Miss Americana” and analyze it some of her song lyrics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Goss said in a news release that she hopes students can apply the concepts and skills to other learning opportunities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWhat I\u2019m hoping is that it develops a skill that they can take with them when they see anything in society \u2014 maybe something that\u2019s super popular, maybe something that\u2019s not, and use sociology as a way to explore it deeper,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
