David Harrington, 37, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and Ricky Johnson, 38, were found dead in their friend’s backyard last January<\/p>\n

Charges could be coming in the case related to the deaths of\u00a0three Kansas City Chiefs fans<\/a>\u00a0found in their friend\u2019s backyard in January, though likely not against the homeowner, according to the homeowner’s lawyer.<\/p>\n

David Harrington, 37, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and Ricky Johnson, 38, were visiting their friend Jordan Willis\u2019 home in Kansas City to watch the Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers on Jan. 7. Two days later, the trio was found dead in Willis\u2019 backyard.<\/p>\n

Willis\u2019 attorney, John Picerno, tells PEOPLE that after speaking with prosecutors involved with the case, he believes charges will be filed in the coming weeks \u2014 but not against his client.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cI do not anticipate that he’s going to be charged with any kind of a homicide in any way or involvement in that,\u201d Picerno says. \u201cAnd so obviously, we’re very pleased with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Picerno previously said Willis was \u201cunaware of how his friends died.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harrington\u2019s father, Jon,\u00a0previously told PEOPLE<\/a>\u00a0Kansas City police had read him a toxicology report indicating that cocaine and fentanyl were found in his son\u2019s body, though the report has not been made public. Authorities have not disclosed causes of death for the victims.<\/p>\n

Picerno says he believes the person who supplied the drugs to the men could potentially face charges.<\/p>\n

Kansas City police have previously told PEOPLE the investigation is not a homicide investigation. In a statement to PEOPLE regarding Picerno’s comments, a police spokesperson says, “[Investigators] did advise they are continuing to work with the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office and could have some updates in the coming weeks.”<\/p>\n

Prosecutors did not return PEOPLE’s request for comment on Picerno’s remarks.<\/p>\n

In March, two months after his son died, Harrington said the results of the investigation wouldn\u2019t change anything for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really care what they find out now, It doesn\u2019t matter to me,\u201d Jon said. \u201cI\u2019ve already said my goodbyes to David and it\u2019s not going to change anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jon said an \u201cawful lot\u201d of people showed up to David\u2019s memorial on Jan. 21, which he said told him \u201chow much they were missing him.\u201d<\/p>\n
