At the 2024 MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift won seven awards, which helped her surpass Beyonc\u00e9’s record of the 26 wins as a solo artist. The two now tie as the most-awarded artist in VMAs history with 30 each.<\/h2>\n

The “Blank Space” singer just surpassed\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9<\/a>\u00a0as the winningest solo artist in the history of the\u00a0MTV Video Music Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the 2024 MTV VMAs at New York’s UBS Arena, Swift\u00a0notched seven Moon Persons<\/a>\u00a0to add to the 23 she already had in possession going into the Sept. 11 ceremony. (Click here to see the complete list of winners<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Her new hardware pushed Swift to 30 total wins, topping the “Cuff It” artist’s previous record of 26 wins as a solo artist, which includes the non-competitive “Video Vanguard Award.”<\/p>\n

It also means Swift and Beyonc\u00e9 now tie as the record holder for most overall wins with 30 each. (Bey holds 26 as a solo artist, two with\u00a0Destiny’s Child<\/a>\u00a0and two as The Carters with husband\u00a0Jay-Z<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

At this year’s show, Swift led the pack of nominees with 12 nods, including “Video of the Year<\/a>” and “Song of the Year” for her “Tortured Poets Department<\/a>” single “Fortnight” with\u00a0Post Malone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Beyonc\u00e9 racked up a total of three nominations, with her\u00a0Cowboy Carter<\/a>\u00a0track “Texas Hold ‘Em” facing off against Swift \u2014 as well as works from\u00a0Sabrina Carpenter<\/a>,\u00a0Kendrick Lamar<\/a>,\u00a0Jack Harlow<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Teddy Swims<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 in the Song of the Year category.<\/p>\n

And this year’s ceremony is a notable one for both Swift, 34, and Beyonc\u00e9, 43. After all, it falls 15 years after\u00a0Kanye West<\/a>\u00a0crashed Swift’s award acceptance speech to proclaim that Beyonc\u00e9’s \u201cSingle Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” should have won the prize for Best Female Video over “You Belong With Me.”<\/p>\n

“Yo, Taylor,” the rapper said after\u00a0jumping onstage at the 2009 MTV VMAs<\/a>\u00a0and taking the microphone from the Fearless artist. “I\u2019m really happy for you. Imma let you finish, but Beyonc\u00e9 had one of the best videos of all time.”<\/p>\n

So, when the spotlight was on Beyonc\u00e9 during her “Video of the Year” win at the end of the night, she invited Swift to the stage to finish her interrupted speech.<\/p>\n

“I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny’s Child and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life,” Beyonc\u00e9 noted at the time. “So, I’d like Taylor to come out and have her moment.”<\/p>\n

Since then, the two performers have only\u00a0continued to raise each other up<\/a>. In fact, Beyonc\u00e9 was\u00a0on hand to personally congratulate\u00a0<\/a>Swift during the\u00a0Los Angeles premiere of her “Eras Tour” documentary<\/a>\u00a0in October, while the “Karma” singer\u00a0flew to London a month later<\/a>\u00a0for the debut of “Renaissance: A Film By Beyonc\u00e9<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“She\u2019s the most precious gem of a person \u2014 warm and open and funny,” Swift said of the “Crazy in Love” hitmaker in a December\u00a0Time<\/a>\u00a0interview. “And she\u2019s such a great disrupter of music-industry norms. She taught every artist how to flip the table and challenge archaic business practices.”<\/p>\n
