Clark made both to reach a career-high 31 points for the game and also record\u00a0the first 30-point, 12-assist game in WNBA history.<\/p>\n<p>The game further strengthened Clark\u2019s argument for Rookie of the Year over the Sky\u2019s\u00a0Angel Reese, who set the WNBA\u2019s rookie record for most double-doubles in a season in the same game.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Diamond DeShields gets called for consecutive identical fouls\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yjM2f3_-CMY\" width=\"347\" height=\"616\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"style-scope ytd-watch-metadata\"><em>Diamond DeShields gets called for consecutive identical fouls<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the backlash against DeShields for the foul reached toxic levels with at least one fan. After the game, DeShields posted a screengrab showing an account repeatedly lamenting \u201cthat tumor should\u2019ve took her out.\u201d DeShields\u00a0was diagnosed with a grape-sized benign tumor on her spinal cord in 2020, risked paralysis when she had it surgically removed and suffered painful tremors while recovering from the procedure.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the fan, DeShields wrote, \u201cThank you God for covering me , I pray u cover those who wish harm unto me as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caas-img-wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caas-img caas-lazy has-preview caas-loaded\" src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/8m_m.6Y3kAEwUaaLHWygtA--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTk2MDtoPTgzOTtjZj13ZWJw\/https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/os\/creatr-uploaded-images\/2024-08\/bb5950b0-67e1-11ef-a7b7-7fd381aabf6a\" alt=\"Screengrab of Diamond DeShields' Instagram story. (Instagram)<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, this isn\u2019t the first time the Sky have had a game against Clark get ugly.\u00a0Chennedy Carter\u00a0was the\u00a0center of a firestorm\u00a0earlier this season\u00a0after hitting Clark\u00a0with a shoulder check. Like the DeShields incident, that also saw a significant blowback, including an incident when\u00a0Sky players reported harassment outside a team hotel. A subsequent video showed that person attempting to ask Carter questions, but\u00a0one Sky player said it was edited to remove him saying much more profane things.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p>There was also\u00a0a hard foul by Reese on Clark in another game. Clark\u2019s rookie season\u00a0has seen unprecedented attention in the WNBA, but not all of it has been good, especially when the Sky have been involved.<\/p>\n<p>Friday was the last regular-season matchup between the teams, though.
