NBC is cutting \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\u201d down to four nights a week.<\/p>\n

The long-running program \u2014 which premiered in 1954 and has been helmed by Fallon for a decade \u2014 will nix its Friday night taping and air reruns, according to\u00a0Variety.<\/a><\/p>\n

NBC has not given an official reason for the cut, but the network has recently been examining the costs associated with its late-night offerings amid shrinking ratings.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether Fallon\u2019s\u00a0purported $16 million per year paycheck\u00a0<\/a>will be affected by the change.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, NBC eliminated the house band from \u201cLate Night with Seth Meyers,\u201d which airs the hour after Fallon.<\/p>\n

\u201cSadly, it\u2019s the reality of broadcast and a shrinking market \u2013 streaming eating into this, and YouTube eating into that,\u201d\u00a0Eli Janney, the associate musical director of \u201cLate Night with Seth Meyers,\u201d\u00a0said in June\u00a0<\/a>of the budget cuts.<\/p>\n

\u201cStreaming is not making money, either. So budgets everywhere have been cut and cut and cut. I liken it to a Spotify moment in music, where suddenly it\u2019s like, nobody wants to pay for music. Music gets devalued.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLate Night with Seth Meyers\u201d was already filming only four original episodes per week.<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span>Meanwhile, Fallon\u2019s late-night competitors on other networks have already cut their own broadcasts down to four nights a week.<\/p>\n

CBS\u2019 \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert,\u201d ABC\u2019s \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live,\u201d and Comedy Central\u2019s \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d do not film a Friday show.<\/p>\n

But while late-night numbers may be dwindling across the board due to streaming, all of the networks are still paying their hosts seriously big bucks.<\/p>\n

In addition to Fallon\u2019s rumored $16 million salary, both Kimmel and Colbert are reported to make around $15 million a year.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Fallon extended his deal with NBC to continue hosting The Tonight Show through 2028.<\/p>\n
