Time snubbed tech titan and artificial intelligence backer Elon Musk from its annual list of the\u00a0\u201c100 Most Influential People in AI\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 but slapped actress Scarlett Johansson on this year\u2019s cover.<\/p>\n

The magazine created a composite image for its 2024 cover showing the photos of 18 AI leaders, topped by Nvidia boss Jensen Huang that also prominently featured the \u201cBlack Widow\u201d star.<\/p>\n

The second annual TIME100 AI edition, released Thursday, also highlighted leading CEOs, including Anthropic\u2019s Dario Amodei and OpenAI\u2019s Sam Altman, as well as founders and influencers in the fast-growing field.<\/p>\n

Yet Musk, who launched xAI last summer and its chatbot Grok has gained traction against rivals like ChatGPT, was conspicuously absent from its pages.<\/p>\n

The century-old magazine is now owned by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, whose software company has been a\u00a0major investor in AI startup Anthropic<\/a>, creating a\u00a0$500 million AI fund<\/a>\u00a0to back emerging companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cDisclosures are included throughout the TIME100 AI list for any companies mentioned that are backed by Salesforce Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Salesforce, where TIME\u2019s owner and co-chair, is CEO,\u201d a Time spokesperson told The Post in a statement.<\/p>\n

Time\u2019s head-scratching decision to snub the Tesla and SpaceX founder led to an uproar on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery person on this top 100 list if asked would say Elon should be on this list,\u201d one user posted on X.<\/p>\n

Another user said the affront was proof of Time\u2019s \u201cbias and lack of integrity\u201d and \u201ctheir personal vendetta against him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The billionaire founded Neuralink in 2016, which made headlines early this year when it successfully implanted a brain chip in a paralyzed patient, allowing him to browse the web and play Internet games with his mind.<\/p>\n

Just this week, Musk brought Colossus \u2013 the world\u2019s most powerful Nvidia GPU supercomputer \u2013 online.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was cute that Elon Musk wasn\u2019t on the cover of Time\u2019s 100 most influential people in AI,\u201d another social media user posted on X. \u201cI had to check for myself when I heard he didn\u2019t make the list at all. My f*cking car drives itself lol.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social media users also questioned the inclusion on the list of Johansson \u2013 who scuffled with OpenAI over\u00a0its alleged use of her voice<\/a>\u00a0to train a chatbot without her permission \u2013 Bollywood actor\u00a0Anil Kapoor and YouTuber Marques Brownlee.<\/p>\n

The list also included Musk rivals like Meta\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg as well as Google boss Sundar Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the world of AI was dominated by the emergence of startup labs like OpenAI, Anthropic, and their competitors in 2023, this year, as critics and champions alike have noted, we\u2019ve seen the outsize influence of a small number of tech giants,\u201d\u00a0Editor in Chief Sam Jacobs wrote on Thursday<\/a>. \u201cThis year\u2019s list offers examples of the possibilities for AI when it moves out of the lab and into the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jacobs emphasized that artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving field \u2013 and with those changes come new leaders.<\/p>\n

He said 91 of the members of the 2024 list were not on last year\u2019s list, which he called \u201can indication of just how quickly this field is changing.\u201d<\/p>\n
