Court records have confirmed the identity of Jonathan E. Ross, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer involved in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Ross was previously injured during a 2025 arrest attempt, and his connection to both incidents has drawn national attention. In response, U.S. Vice President JD Vance publicly addressed the situation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ross is a 10-year veteran<\/a> of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) division, according to The Guardian<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Federal officials have declined to publicly confirm the officer’s name. In a statement to the outlet, Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), said<\/a>, “We are not going to expose the name of this officer. He acted according to his training.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, his identity was confirmed<\/strong> through court filings that matched details of the previous year’s incident cited by the DHS. The Minneapolis Star Tribune<\/i> also named Ross<\/strong> in a January 8, 2026, article, citing court records and video evidence linking him to the earlier case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As reported by The New York Post<\/i>, the case occurred on June 17, 2025, during a traffic stop<\/strong> in Bloomington, Minnesota, when Ross attempted to arrest Roberto Carlos Mu\u00f1oz, a Guatemalan national with prior convictions, including sexual assault<\/strong> of a minor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A video<\/a> of the encounter was also recorded, capturing the moment tensions escalated. Mu\u00f1oz reportedly refused to exit his vehicle. Ross then broke the rear driver’s side window, at which point Mu\u00f1oz accelerated, dragging Ross<\/strong> approximately 100 yards with his arm trapped inside the car.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mu\u00f1oz was later arrested, charged with assaulting a federal officer, and convicted<\/strong> by a jury in December 2025.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

At a White House briefing, Vance defended<\/strong> the ICE officer who fatally shot Good, claiming the media had deliberately ignored the officer’s past trauma.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He referenced the agent’s violent encounter<\/strong> six months earlier. <\/strong>He also implied that the officer’s near-death <\/strong>experience may have heightened his response during the Minneapolis operation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As reported by KARE 11, the incident<\/a> occurred at the intersection of 34th Street and Portland Avenue, in the Powderhorn Park neighborhood. According to the DHS, ICE agents were conducting<\/a> “targeted operations” when they were allegedly confronted by individuals attempting to interfere.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

DHS spokesperson McLaughlin said<\/a> the woman “weaponized her vehicle” and tried to run over officers. She added<\/a>:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“An ICE officer fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow officers and the lives of the public, fired defensive shots, used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. Thankfully, the ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

A video shared online showed a burgundy SUV<\/strong> surrounded by law enforcement agents. Gunshots were heard before the vehicle crashed into a light pole. A bullet hole<\/strong> was visible in the driver’s side windshield. Two parked cars appeared to have been struck.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The woman was later identified<\/strong> as Good. Her family confirmed her identity. The Minneapolis City Council issued<\/a> a public statement mourning her death:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Instagram, Good described<\/a> herself as a member of the LGBTQ+ community<\/strong>, a poet, a writer, a wife, and a mother originally from Colorado. She also described herself as a guitar player.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Her creative work gained recognition in 2020, when she received Old Dominion University’s undergraduate poetry prize<\/a> for her piece “On Learning to Dissect Fetal Pigs,” while studying creative writing<\/strong> in Norfolk, Virginia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the years that followed, she settled in Minneapolis, where she lived just a few blocks from the site of the fatal shooting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to the Star Tribune, Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, said the family had been notified of her death<\/strong> late Wednesday morning. After hearing some of the details surrounding the shooting, Ganger expressed disbelief and heartbreak. “That’s so stupid,” she said<\/a>. “She was probably terrified.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ganger also stated that her daughter had no involvement<\/strong> with any protest activity or confrontations with federal agents. She described Good as one of the kindest people she’d ever known.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being,” Ganger explained<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ganger’s daughter had previously been married<\/strong> to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who died in 2023 at the age of 36. The two shared a child, now six years old.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Macklin’s father, Timmy Ray Macklin Sr., said he was shocked to learn of Good’s death<\/strong> and expressed concern for his grandson’s future. “There\u2019s nobody else in his life,” he said<\/a>. “I’ll drive. I’ll fly. To come and get my grandchild.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the Powderhorn Park neighborhood, residents mourned<\/strong> alongside friends and family. Neighbors salted the sidewalks to manage the heavy foot traffic from mourners. While many declined to speak about the tragedy, Mary Radford, 27, who lived next door to Good, shared emotional memories<\/a> of the family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Radford said she got home around 7 p.m. and found the neighborhood crowded with people who had come to grieve. She spoke warmly of the Good family, describing them as kind and close-knit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Good’s young son<\/strong>, Radford noted, was especially sweet and loved playing outside. He was particularly fond of her dog, often running over to pet and play with her whenever they passed by.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Though the Goods had moved in only recently, Radford reflected on meaningful conversations and a warm neighborly bond.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We’re gonna miss seeing them \u2014 forever,” Radford said<\/a>. “It is so painful to think about how he’s gonna fare in his life. And I just can’t even imagine what that family is going through.” Fighting back tears, she added, “I wish I could have known her more.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
