{"id":43384,"date":"2025-11-17T14:25:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T14:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=43384"},"modified":"2025-11-17T14:25:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T14:25:00","slug":"nigerian-gunmen-abduct-dozens-of-girls-from-boarding-school-after-killing-deputy-head-teacher-in-chilling-echo-of-chibok-kidnappings-daily-mail-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usdailys.com\/?p=43384","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian gunmen abduct &#8216;dozens&#8217; of girls from boarding school after killing deputy head teacher in chilling echo of Chibok kidnappings | Daily Mail Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Nigerian gunmen have abducted dozens of girls from a boarding school after killing the deputy head teacher, echoing the 2014 Boko Haram kidnappings in Chibok.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The assailants, armed with rifles, attacked the Maga Comprehensive Girls&#8217; Secondary School in Danko Wasagu, Kebbi state, at around 4am on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Police in <a id=\"mol-723c4580-c3a8-11f0-a846-ddfb24e40ef2\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"\/news\/nigeria\/index.html\" target=\"_self\">Nigeria<\/a> have confirmed the abduction of 25 female students and have now launched a search and rescue operation for those who were taken during this morning&#8217;s incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Vice Principal Hassan Yakubu Makuku was also shot dead while resisting the attackers, and a security guard, named locally as Ali, sustained injuries during the invasion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The gunmen fled towards the neighbouring state of Zamfara with the kidnapped students, a teacher speaking on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns told Reuters. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It comes after April 14, 2014, where 276 girls, aged 16 to 18, were abducted from a school by the Boko Haram jihadist group in the Nigerian town of Chibok in what was the country&#8217;s most high-profile mass abduction case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Residents of the Danko Wasagu area told Nigerian news site <a class=\"\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.premiumtimesng.com\/regional\/nwest\/836115-breaking-terrorists-kidnap-schoolgirls-in-kebbi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">Premium Times<\/a>\u00a0following the most recent incident that the bandits infiltrated the area through Zamfara forests, and operated unhindered despite two military checkpoints near the school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;One of the checkpoints is in Damarke,&#8217; the source, who lives near Maga town, said.\u00a0 &#8216;It is under Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and it is about seven kilometers from the school.&#8217;<\/p>\n<div class=\"artSplitter mol-img-group\">\n<div class=\"mol-img\">\n<div class=\"image-wrap\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">Boko Haram released a video in 2016 demanding the release of prisoners in exchange for the freeing the Nigerian schoolgirls they kidnapped in 2014<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The other checkpoint, according to locals, is placed less than a kilometre from the abduction site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;It is around Rabah junction in Maga,&#8217; a traditional ruler, said under the condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n<div class=\"floatRHS\">\n<div data-mol-fe-xpmodule-related-story-factbox=\"true\" data-xp-platform=\"mol.web.desktop\" data-xp-channel-color=\"home\" data-track-module=\"related-story-factbox^related-story-factbox-more-than-200-children-are-abducted-from\" data-reactroot=\"\">\n<div class=\"textContainer_L8BEBeSX\"><\/div>\n<p><a class=\"container_V5eJTpXY\" href=\"\/news\/article-13172667\/More-200-children-abducted-Nigerian-school.html\" target=\"_self\" data-testid=\"container\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 1em auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2024\/03\/08\/09\/82202667-0-image-a-12_1709890808455.jpg\" alt=\"article image\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;The checkpoint is fortified with heavy military equipment including an armoured personnel carrier (APC).&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;The school is a boarding school and they only kidnapped the 25 students from one of the many hostels,&#8217; he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Taking to X later on Monday morning, Nigeria&#8217;s Police Force confirmed: &#8216;Police tactical units, military personnel and vigilantes have been deployed for search and recue operations of the kidnapped students of government girls comprehensive secondary school, Maga.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;On the 17th November, 2025 at about 0400hrs, information received revealed that, a gang of armed bandits with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically, stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko district, Danko\/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them into a gun duel. Over 80 girls remain missing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Since 2022, around 20 Chibok women have been rescued, but some have told stories of how they were forced to marry their abductors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">More recently, in March 2024, 200 pupils were abducted by suspected jihadists during a raid on a school in northwest Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Witnesses said the pupils in Kaduna State were in the assembly ground at 8.30am when dozens of gunmen riding motorcycles stormed the school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The students, aged between eight and 15, were then rounded up and taken away by the armed men &#8211; along with one of their teachers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Kidnappings for ransom are common in Africa&#8217;s most populous country, where heavily armed criminal gangs have targeted schools and colleges in the past, especially in the northwest, though such attacks have abated recently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nigerian gunmen have abducted dozens of girls from a boarding school after killing the deputy head teacher, echoing the 2014 Boko Haram kidnappings in Chibok.
