At first, Danielle believed her husband, Jensen Karp, and their sons, Adler and Keaton Karp, were adapting just fine. “I thought everyone at home was thriving,” she said<\/a>. “And then he said, ‘and also my mom died,'” Danielle recounted<\/a>. “And the teacher said, ‘I’m sorry,’ And he was like, ‘Yes, my mom. My mom is dead.'”<\/p>\n

It was clear Adler was expressing something more profound \u2014 not a lie meant to deceive, but a desperate attempt to vocalize how much he missed his mother. Danielle didn’t hesitate. She dropped everything and rushed from rehearsal to pick him up.<\/p>\n

When she arrived, Adler was elated \u2014 momentarily. He asked what they’d be doing that night, but Danielle reminded him he had a movie night planned with friends. That’s when his face changed, and he said<\/a>:<\/p>\n

In a June 19, 2023, Instagram post, she wrote<\/a>, “Happy Father’s day to our Papa Bear, @jensenkarp. No one else I’d rather eat at the same chain restaurants with over and over, begging our kids to eat more than jelly packets [sic]. \u2764\ufe0f”<\/p>\n

The year before, she posted<\/a>, “Happy Father’s Day to @jensenkarp. Father of two humans and two fur children (Brunch and Bill) and an endless source of fun, love, and calm in a house that radiates so much boy energy. I am so grateful you’re my partner and that neither of us have [sic] to navigate this parenting thing alone. We love you and are so lucky you’re ours. \u2665\ufe0f”<\/p>\n

The warmth in those words reflects the same love and pain she felt when recounting Adler’s reaction to her DWTS commitment. Being a working mother, especially in the entertainment industry, remains a constant tug-of-war between passion and presence.<\/p>\n
