free-buses-for-all plan<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which critics warn could turn the vehicles into havens for violent criminals and the mentally ill \u2014 may have scared off some New Yorkers.<\/p>\n\u201cI think the major thing that will affect people would be something as simple as free bus tickets, as bad as that sounds,\u201d said John Antretter,\u00a0 a broker in Manhattan and Brooklyn.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf people feel unsafe sending their kids across town on the bus every day or if they have to switch to private car services or Ubers or the parents driving them \u2026 that\u2019ll be the No. 1 driving force.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dimitry Melnikov, owner of the home interior firm\u00a0Putnam Design in the Cos Cob neighborhood in Greenwich, said, \u201cThe [local housing] market is screaming, it\u2019s hot.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlaces are selling for much more than they are worth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
